Giving Praise to the Creator and Not the Creation

August 1, 2017 · In: Devotions

| O LORD our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth.| Psalm 8:1

Do you remember as a child laying on the ground at night and marveling at the stars in the heavens? Eyes caught on the sparkle of the stars jumping off the backdrop of the dark sky. How beautiful they were then and more so today. Why are they more beautiful today? Today, I look at the creation through my understanding of the Creator. Are you giving praise to the creator and not the creation?

It All Begins and Ends With Praise to God.

Psalm 8 begins and ends with King David singing praises to Jehovah, YAHWEH, LORD, I AM WHO I AM. God’s revealed name to Moses in Exodus 3:14. David knew the account of creation recorded  for us in Genesis 1. He understands that God spoke and everything that came into existence came through the power of His word. He gives praise to the Creator and not the creation.

Giving Praise to the Creator and Not the Creation

|What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that you care for him?|Psalm 8:4.

David considers the heavens and the works of God’s hands. His own existence humbles him. When we compare who we are to the greatness of God, we should fall down and worship. This Psalm not only reminds me of the creation account in Genesis 1, it also reminds me of Paul’s words in Romans 1:20.

| For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.|

Not everyone looks to the heavens and considers the God of the creation. Their gaze is on the creation. They worship the creature and not the creator. They’ve turned their eyes inward looking at themselves. Never stopping to consider the One who created them. “professing to be wise, they became fools.” Romans 1:22 How foolish to exchange the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man. Beloved, we need to learn and understand God deserves the glory not His creation including ourselves! We must grow up and no longer be like children laying on the ground marveling at the stars in heaven.

Let’s give Him praise today!

|O, LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!| Psalm 8:9
