Are you looking for help and resources for your Bible study?
As believers in Christ Jesus studying the Bible is our food for growing in maturity. You may be surprised, but most professing Christians do not know how to study the Bible. Maybe that is why you are here. Let me be honest. I was in the same place myself many years ago before I learned the Inductive Bible Study Method.
Today, I am here to share with you some information that I have learned that I pray will help you in your Bible Study time!
Reaping Rewards From Detailed Observation in Inductive Bible Study
There are may rewards for the student of God’s word. The benefits far out weigh any apprehension you my have to get started. Studying the Bible is not an exercise of just acquiring knowledge. Although God gives knowledge and we must have it to know and understand His Word we do not just acquire knowledge for knowledge sake.
Facts are gathered to obtain knowledge. The knowledge we gather from the Scriptures is used to grow in our knowledge of God and for transformation.
We must read and study the Bible paying close attention and fixing our minds on what it is teaching.
Why We Need to Observe the Text?
Observation is defined as:
The act of taking notice,
Fixing the mind upon,
Beholding with attention
and as used in science includes the idea of making and recording one’s findings.
When we observe the definition of observation we can see the importance it has on the study of God’s Word.
Martin Luther whom God used to return His church to Sola Scriptura, (Scripture Alone) and birthed the Reformation described what is an inductive approach to Bible study when he said…
“I study my Bible as I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree that the ripest might fall . Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, I shake each branch and every twig. Then I look under every leaf . I shake the Bible as a whole , like shaking the whole tree. Then I shake every limb—study book after book. Then I shake every branch, giving attention to the chapters when they do not break the sense . Then I shake every twig, or a careful study of the paragraphs and sentences and words and their meanings.”
How Do We Observe the Text?
Reading the text repeatedly and gathering facts by asking questions are the first steps in observing God’s Word. Ask these six questions: Who What, Where, When, Why, and How.
I have written a more detailed article about how to do this and you can also download free worksheets to help you in your study.

Learning to Observe Takes Time and Practice
With anything that we decide to learn it does not just happen over night. It takes time and repeated action to get better at slowing down and observing the word of God. Is it worth the time and effort that it takes? Yes!
I am even going to say it is above all the best effort that we can make, studying in detail the Word of God. We will know the truth and the truth will set us free.
