“But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.” Romans 11:4
Romans 10 ends with Paul quoting from Isaiah 65:2. He records the words of God, saying, ” All day long, I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.” Then we enter chapter 11 upon the Sovereign grace of God.
Though Israel was disobedient and obstinate, murders, and idol worshippers, Romans 11:4, God did not reject those who are spiritual Israel as a result of His promise and election. He kept the promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Remember, not all Israel is Israel.
Romans 9:6-7
The question now arises, how do these bible verses about grace apply to the rest of the world? We find the answer in Romans 11:11. “Because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.”
Salvation Comes Through Grace
Salvation comes by grace. We were no different than Israel. We walked according to the course of this world, dead in our trespasses and sins. Ephesians 2:1. We suppressed the truth in unrighteousness and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image. Romans 1:18-21.
Just like Israel, we pursued a law of righteousness, not knowing about the righteousness of God. Romans 9:30 and Romans 10:3.
If God chose them, Israel, by grace, the same applies to the rest of the world. God does not choose a remnant for the things they have done. If they could be made God’s people by what they did, then God’s gift of grace would not be a gift.
Bible Verses About Grace
For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. John 1:16.
We are filled to overflowing with grace upon grace from Christ.
Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; Romans 3:24
The true believer are justified, pronounced righteous by God, through the redemption which is in Christ.
For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, Romans 4:16
Salvation is through faith alone, in Christ alone, by God’s grace alone.
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. Romas 11:6
No one is saved by his works. Salvation is solely based on the work of Christ, and received as a free gift of grace.
Let Grace Be Grace
“For by grace, you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:31
Exult in the Lord of grace! Worship the Lord of grace. Love the Lord of grace. Be happy in the Lord of grace. Let grace be grace – for your joy and his glory. John Piper
