She was playing with her toys, and I was sitting with her reading my Bible. I was not reading it out loud; I was reading to myself while she crawled around everywhere. Eventually, curiosity got the best of her, and she moved to Granny. She pulled herself up on my leg, laid her sweet little hand on my Bible, and in her 10-month-old little voice, said, “what’s that?” I looked at her and began to tell her that it was the Bible, God’s Holy Word. I told her that it taught us about God. That it revealed to us we are sinners in need of a Savior, and Jesus Christ was the One who saves us from our sin. I was sharing the Gospel. God opened the door for me to share the Gospel with our little Lyla.
Praying to Share the Gospel
What you do not know is earlier that morning as I was driving to take care of her for the day, I was praying. I was praying for my church family and asking God to allow each of us to share the Gospel with someone that day. When I finished the prayer, I thought to myself, well, I may not get to share the Gospel today because I will not be leaving the house.
Ye of little faith!
After I had told Lyla about God, Christ, and sin, I went into the kitchen to put away some dishes, and it hit me, God answered my prayer! No, I did not leave the house. I did not come in contact with anyone but Lyla, and God allowed me to share the Gospel with my granddaughter!
It was such a sweet time. So natural. I never worried about what to say. I just explained to Lyla as simply as I could, the Gospel!
Praying for a Harvest
Did Lyla understand what I was saying? Probably not. But this, I know. As long as I have breath in this granny body, she will hear about Jesus. As her family, her church family, and friends plant the seeds of the Gospel, I will be praying for a harvest!
It is never too early to start teaching and preaching the Gospel. It is also never too late as long as there is breath. While there is breath, there is hope!
Sharing the Gospel With Everyone
The apostle Paul says in Romans 1:16,” He is not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” To our neighbor, to our friends, to our children, to our grand-babies!
I hope and pray that none of us are ashamed to preach and teach the Gospel of Christ! After all, we were not ashamed to believe when someone preached it to us!
