Introduction to Philemon: A picture of God’s Love
Week 1 Overview: It is Love That Leads the Way to Forgiveness
Welcome back to week two of our study in Philemon, “A Picture of God’s grace and mercy that lead to forgiveness.” We are spending three weeks in this 25 verse book. Philemon is short in verses but paints a big picture of the love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness of God. Last week we focused our attention on this truth, “It is love that leads the way to forgiveness.” This week in the book of Philemon we will set our minds on the gifts of grace and mercy that lead to forgiveness.
Our second week in Philemon we will spend writing the book. We will write five verses every day for five days! I have found that writing the verses slows me down and causes me to focus more of my attention on what the text is teaching. I cannot stress enough how important it is to read and write the word of God! It will guard us against error and cherry picking the Scriptures. We will be building a firm foundation on which to stand. And we will know the God of the Bible not a god of our own making!

Philemon: A Picture of God’s Grace, and Mercy that lead to Forgiveness.
“But God being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ(by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is a gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
As you write this week focus on the love, grace, mercy and forgiveness that God bestowed on you.
Look at the example of the Apostle Paul as he extends love, grace, and mercy to Onesimus
Notice how Paul calls Philemon to extend his God-given grace, mercy, and forgiveness to Onesimus. This is not just a message to Philemon. It is a directive to you and I as well! Write well this week my friends!
Tell your friends, church groups, and family about this study! Let’s form a community of women who desire to know God, study the truth of His word, and grow as God conforms our lives to bring glory and honor to Him!
