Welcome to our first week in the book of Philemon. We will be spending three weeks in this 25 verse book! This first week we will be reading the book of Philemon every day. Why are we reading through the book every day? Well, to start off it is small, only 25 verses. That makes it really easy to read every day. Repetition, repetition, repetition helps put the word of God into our hearts and minds. I do not know about you but I can read something one time go back and read it again and see something I did not see the first time. We may not remember every verse word for word but I do believe we will recall much more than if we had only read it one or two times.
Read what the Psalmist says,
” How blessed is the man who does not walk in the council of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His Law, he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3.

Introduction to Philemon: Love, Mercy, Grace, and Forgiveness
Philemon is one book that I have never heard anyone preach, teach, or even mention! How about you? I have to admit I have read this book many times but this time, God has opened my eyes to a greater understanding of what this 25 verse, one chapter book holds! It may be little in size but big on four of God’s amazing graces. The book of Philemon is a picture of the Love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness that God bestowed on those who believe. Onesimus, a slave of Philemon, ran away for reasons that are not clear to us. We do know that he may have taken something or wronged Philemon in some way. Philemon 1:18. According to Roman law, Philemon had the right to put Onesimus to death. But Paul appeals to Philemon asking him to forgive and accept Onesimus as a beloved brother. Philemon 1:16.
Just like Onesimus, all men turn and run away from God. According to God’s Law, we earned and deserved God’s punishment, condemnation, and even death. But God provides a way!
