Jesus is the Ultimate Reason for Our Salvation

January 23, 2017 · In: Spiritual Growth

Did you know Jesus is the ultimate reason for our salvation. Join me in a study of 1 peter as I answer this question and many more!

In our last discussion, {Read Article Here,} we looked at God’s Grace and Mercy that brings men to repentance! We spent time talking about the fact that before salvation we were enemies of God, under His wrath and condemnation, and undeserving of His grace and mercy. The word of God describes mankind as sinners, haters, people who live in the lust of the flesh and walk according to the course of this world. Not a pretty picture is it! In our previous conversation, we answered the question, “Why Would God choose Anyone for Salvation.”  Today we will look at the question, “How does God cleanse a sinner from defilement and remove His wrath and condemnation?” Jesus is the answer!

God is Just and the Justifier:

Before we dive into answering the question, “How does God cleanse us from all unrighteousness” there is something we need to get clear in our minds. This one thing is often a missed and misunderstood truth. I believe it is key to understanding the question we are tackling today. Romans 3:23-26 teaches this,

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

There is one truth I want us to focus on from this passage.

God is Just

How can God be just in justifying a sinner? Nahum 1:3 teaches, ” The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.” Romans 1:18 says that the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Romans 3:10-18 puts all mankind under the wrath and punishment of God. Again, how can God be just in justifying a sinner? When we read and study through the Old Testament especially the book of Leviticus we see that God covered sin through the shedding of blood. Hebrews 9:22 teaches that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. God did punish sin and there was a shedding of blood for forgiveness.  Therefore God is just in justifying the sinner! That is wonderful news for you and me!

Through the Precious Blood of Christ

God made a way. In His love and mercy, God made a way to save man, “you and me” from His wrath and condemnation. How? Through the shed blood of His one and only Son Jesus Christ! God poured out His wrath and justice on His Son. The wrath and justice that rested on you and me were satisfied through His Son. Now those who believe can walk in righteousness, the righteousness of Jesus Christ! Because of the atoning work of Christ, God can justly cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

We were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. He Himself bore our sin in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds we are healed. 1 Peter 2:24-25.  Romans 3:25 teaches that Christ was the propitiation, the sacrifice that satisfied the anger and wrath of God against sinful man. He placed our sin on Christ and killed its reigning power!

This my beloved is the good News of Jesus Christ! Will you fill up the comment section with praise to God for His salvation?

Join me next time as we answer the question, “How then should we live as God’s Chosen possession?”
