As I began to grow in my walk with the Lord, I soon realized that for years I had created a god of my understanding. I had made a god that fit my mold. He was what was comfortable for me. I am afraid that is what most of us do. Even if we are “studiers” of the Word we can make Him into something that He is not. We can take scriptures that say hard things, and because it makes us uncomfortable we push it away or twist it to say what we want it to say. Just because we twist and deform the word, does not change the Truth! God is Who He says He!
I have studied for many years, I make no claims of being some great theologian. Most of you have probable forgotten more than I have learned. But, through my studies God has shown me more and more of who He really is. The images I had created in my mind have faded away, and I no longer want a god that fits my needs. I want the One True God. I have developed a study habit that has helped me tremendously. When I sit down to study, and I mean really study not just read, I begin by looking for what the scriptures teach concerning God. Then from there I look for what they teach about Christ and then the Holy Spirit. I am a list maker so I sit with pen and paper in hand, and write what the scriptures are teaching. I stay in an attitude of prayer, asking God to show me who He is, and to protect me from false ideas and false understandings.
Below I have written some scriptures that speak of the glory of God. This is by no means an exhaustive list. I pray that as you read these verses that God pricks your heart, and that you pick up His word and begin to look for the One True God.
You will know the truth and the truth will set you free!
Psalm 25:8 “Good and upright is the LORD; Therefore He instructs sinners in the way.”
James 1:17 ” Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
Hebrews 4:16 ” therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Isaiah 6:3 “And one called out to another and said, Holy. Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, the whole world is full of His glory.”
